Then again, this is probably why I like to run on a track: you just need to be able to count to figure out your distance. Gmaps Pedometer is drop dead simple to use and provides a nice way to track the distance of your latest run, bike ride or walk. There’s a few nice features like a calories burned calculation as well. You can save your route for a custom URL and even view the elevation of your run like I did above on a 4.5 miler I did yesterday. You simply trace your running route on a standard Google Map and the Gmaps pedometer tracks the distance and automatically places mile markers if you want. Instead of fancy devices to help, I’ve decided to keep things simple so I bought an inexpensive Timex 50-lap watch and found a great service that uses Google maps called Gmaps Pedometer.
